We’ve been waiting a long time for this and working towards it for even longer. Now the time has come: the Fred Hotel Central is open. Here, we welcome our guests with stylish four-star comfort and personalised tips for their stay in Zurich.
Our new hotel doesn’t just bear the Fred name – it embodies the Fred spirit: Fred Tschanz always sought simplicity and straightforwardness, without any frills. At the same time, everything had to be functional and ‘stand out’ to ensure guests enjoyed a completely carefree stay in Zurich at all times. We are carrying on this legacy with our SmartStay® Benefits.
The Fred Hotel Central was developed in line with the SmartStay® Benefits and consistently embraces a minimalist design approach. The newly designed rooms feature a well-thought-out, intuitive layout. This creates space for relaxation and ensures maximum comfort. The clear focus on quality, modern functionality and smart details enables it to be classified as a 4-star hotel.
With the SmartStay concept, Fred Hotels demonstrates that local roots and modern hospitality are not a contradiction: straightforward, digital, efficient – yet still personal and welcoming.

At the Fred Hotel Central, we’re embracing Hotel 2.0: rather than queuing at reception to check in, our guests receive a link straight away with their booking confirmation, which they can use – just like with an airline – to check in themselves with ease. Instead of a boarding pass, however, they receive their personal digital room key on their smartphone, which serves as their room key throughout their stay. This makes arrival at the Fred Hotel Central as relaxed as possible and gives us more time for our guests: they are welcomed by our Local Hosts and, over a welcome drink in the lobby, receive personalised, hand-picked tips and information for their stay in the city on the Limmat.

Anyone entering the room will immediately feel at home. The newly designed rooms impress with their minimalist design, featuring warm wooden floors, soothing shades of green and a pleasant, light-filled atmosphere. Every detail is consistently geared towards intuitive functionality, as evidenced by the open, well-thought-out wardrobe, charging sockets integrated directly beside the bed, and cosy seating areas. Comfortable, high-quality Swiss-made beds and modern, space-optimised bathrooms featuring first-class materials make the rooms the perfect retreat after an eventful day in Zurich.
With the opening of the Fred Hotel Central, the next phase of refurbishment at the Hotel Zürcherhof is set to begin. The hotel in Zurich’s Niederdorf district will be refurbished entirely in line with the model of the Fred Hotel Central and the SmartStay® benefits. It will then reopen in autumn 2027 as a four-star Fred Hotel.
